A Letter to an Expectant Mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

Writing this letter to you, we recognize that neither of us can know nor fully appreciate what you are experiencing – the decisions you must make, your worries and fears, and your hopes for the future. In considering adoption, we recognize that you are making the most significant and possibly difficult decision of your life. We have nothing but respect for you as you move through this time in your life and would feel incredibly honored to parent your child.

We’re Jennifer and Chris and have been married since the spring of 2001 after becoming friends during college, going our separate ways, and then reconnecting and falling in love. Here’s what we want to share with you about us: we’re happy, we’re best friends, and we’re not perfect. Our house might not always be spotless and our jobs may drive us crazy sometimes, but we still manage to make each other laugh daily and try our very best to enjoy each day and whatever it brings.

We live in a comfortable home in a small New England coastal town. We’ve filled it with books, art, music and the laughter of friends and family. We work in the garden, sail on the bay with Chris’ family, and enjoy our passions for baseball, public radio, and playing cards. Additionally, we both are voracious readers who adore the adventures that can be experienced through the printed page. Reading to a child at night and nurturing a love of books and learning is something we both look forward to sharing.

We also enjoy traveling together, and, history buffs that we are, visiting museums and historic homes. We indulge our shared love for the Maine coast and New Hampshire mountains, where we now regularly go for vacations. While there, we explore on our bikes, sit quietly on the rocks and read our books, hike the trails of national parks, and search for new lighthouses or waterfalls to explore. We can’t wait to share this world with your child.

As parents, we’ll likely make mistakes but who doesn’t? What’s important is that we’ll learn from them and grow into being the parents that we’re meant to be. We’ll be loving and kind while providing structure and guidance. We’ll also encourage your child to have fun, explore the world, discover her own interests and talents, and ultimately grow into the strong, confident, and beautiful person she is meant to be.

This is what we wish to share with your child and what we hope this site illustrates – a life in a small town in a home filled with love and laughter and learning, adventures and travel, bike rides and baseball games, family and friends, and imperfect yet happy parents – a safe harbor in which she will be able to grow, dream, and thrive. We wish you well now and in the future.

We hope you’ll take a few minutes to explore the rest of this site. Thank you for getting to know us and considering us as parents for your child.

Best wishes,

Chris and Jennifer
